Changing the words a little doesn't obliterate the author's rights. This is well known all over the world.

The subtitles did not give credit to Mary Frye, but notes its poetic origin as "unknown". However it should be noted that the Japanese translation employed a different language and as such used significantly different wordings although the context is the same.

Just to inform that Mary Frye of Baltimore, Maryland (d. 9/04) wrote the poem in 1932 to comfort a friend whose mother died in Germany. She was not interested in making money from it and so stayed well in the background. Through the years, the poem itself made its way all over the English speaking world and was eventually translated to other langugages. I hope the Japanese translation gives proper credit to her.

I too find the sound of this song most incredible. I would love to know the words. I think it is called "A Thousands Winds". I have seen this song played over a ww2 battle scene on Japanese Islands and if I'm not mistaken this song might be a tribute to Japanese soldiers.
